The Brazilian media is 1984 "ingSoc"

In all the newspapers: morning, afternoon, evening and dawn. In almost all the television programs, even on the most popular channels. In productions of the seventh art: national and international movies... Also on all the radio stations in the country. Possibly on most YouTube channels. Even those who say they are against this orchestration of the same speeches and the same narratives. Every day, the talk about racism, homophobia, misogyny... Every day, it's the same litany, as if an entire country were reduced to these supposedly well-intentioned abstractions, but with clearly totalitarian intentions and consequences. Every day, Big Brother reminds us of its political and im]moral agenda: Machiavelli's divide and conquer, the bread and circuses of the Roman emperors, as a thousand years ago... Now we have TVs, computers, cell phones, A.I. Everything to continue what they started from the beginning. From sacrifices to the Sun King, from servitude to the clergy and nobility, from endless wars, from artificial divisions, from fictions as certainties. And the cycles are renewed, and the executioners may even be different, but humanity remains the same...

After all, is it the "far right", extreme, or especially who accuses it??

The traditional media reflects and expresses the voice of power, which has never really been moderate and balanced...

Those who are always ready to "accuse" others of being intolerant, extremists... fascists, racists, xenophobes... basically repeat the litany of accusing others of being and doing what they themselves are and do...

Some examples of the "extremism" of the "far right" today:

- The "far right" only wants greater control over immigration, especially in countries that have experienced significant flows of immigrants, and because this lack of control generates very negative consequences, especially the increase in cultural conflicts, crime and the progressive demographic and cultural replacement of natives by foreigners... Not to mention that it does not solve the social problems of the countries where most of these immigrants come from.

Very "radical" and "extremist"...

- The "far right" only wants to combat the excesses of 'left-wing' identity politics, in which immigration policies with little control are also part of the "package", as is the reversal of institutionalized discrimination against certain groups in evaluation and selection processes in the labor market, particularly white men, in countries where this policy has been imposed, returning to the old common sense of prioritizing technical competence over subjective preferences (racial, sexual...).

Or even the ban on trans athletes in traditional sports, especially in women's sports, knowing that they tend to have natural biological advantages, particularly for "trans women" over "biological women" (and which reverses the situation when it comes to competitions between "trans men" and "biological men", exposing the first group to the risks of competing with those who are much stronger and more physically agile)...

Or that children can be subjected to irreversible procedures on their developing bodies when they express any level of mismatch between gender and sex identity (which seems that, most of the time, is nothing more than a temporary mismatch).

An affront to moderation and rationality, don't you think?

 O que a cidade de Rotherham e a Palestina têm em comum? 

A priori, nada. São apenas duas localidades distantes uma da outra, uma no norte da Inglaterra e outra na região do Levante, no Oriente Médio. No entanto, coisas perturbadoras têm acontecido nessas regiões. Só que a "mídia tradicional", pelas mesmas razões, tem evitado a todo custo falar abertamente sobre cada caso, se convertendo mais uma vez naquilo que sempre foi, em um dos tentáculos do poder, acobertando crimes graves por causa de sua submissão à diretrizes "politicamente corretas". 

No primeiro caso, de 1997 a 2013, foram cometidos milhares de estupros seletivos, especialmente de adolescentes brancas de classe trabalhadora, por gangues de paquistaneses muçulmanos. E não é apenas a mídia que tem dado uma cobertura insignificante ao caso, mas também grupos que supostamente deveriam estar denunciando esses crimes, como as "feministas", que ficaram calados ou dando pouquíssima importância. Novamente, a desprezível indignação moral de muitos autodeclarados "de esquerda", em que parece que um crime só é digno de indignação se for cometido por seus inimigos políticos ou por indivíduos dos grupos que transformaram em bodes expiatórios, como os brancos. Então, para não serem vistos como "politicamente incorretos", se calaram por todo esse tempo e continuam... E ainda tem os que tentam abrandar a gravidade da situação... 

Pois, na Palestina, também tem acontecido atrocidades, cometidas contra civis pelo exército do estado de "Israel", pela desculpa de perseguir membros do grupo terrorista Hamas depois dos atentados de outubro. Algumas estimativas falam em mais de duzentos mil mortos com direito a todos os tipos de crimes de guerra possíveis. Mas... Porque a "mídia" ocidental está literalmente nas mesmas mãos sujas que estão exterminando inocentes naquela região...

Esses dois casos apenas reforçam as evidências de que a mídia nunca trabalhou para o bem comum, mas para o poder.

But the "mainstream media", for the same reasons, has avoided talking openly about each case at all costs, once again becoming what it has always been, one of the tentacles of power, covering up serious crimes because of its submission to "politically correct" guidelines.

In the first case, from 1997 to 2013, thousands of targeted rapes were committed, especially of White working-class teenagers, by gangs of Pakistani Muslims. And it is not only the media that has given the case insignificant coverage, but also groups that are supposed to be denouncing these crimes, such as "feminists", who have remained silent or given very little importance. Once again, the despicable moral indignation of many self-proclaimed "leftists", who believe that a crime is only worthy of indignation if it is committed by their political enemies or by individuals from the groups they have turned into scapegoats, such as White people. So, in order not to be seen as "politically incorrect", they have remained silent for all this time and continue to do so... And there are still those who try to downplay the gravity of the situation...

Well, in Palestine, atrocities have also been committed against civilians by the army of the state of "Israel", under the pretext of persecuting members of the terrorist group Hamas after the October attacks. Some estimates speak of more than two hundred thousand deaths, including all types of possible war crimes. But... Because the Western "media" is literally in the same dirty hands that are exterminating innocent people in that region...

These two cases only reinforce the evidence that the media has never worked for the common good, but for power.

Dois exemplos da ginástica de como a mídia cria mitos e narrativas falsas/Two gymnastics examples of how the media creates myths and false narratives

 Nádia Comaneci e Simone Biles 

Simone Biles tem sido alçada ao posto de maior ginasta de todos os tempos pela mídia ocidental, especialmente pela mídia americana. No entanto, para um esporte complexo, como a ginástica, essa afirmação é muito improvável de ser verdadeira, se, ao longo da história desse esporte, tem surgido muitos nomes que o revolucionaram; se a sua evolução cronológica torna praticamente impossível comparar ginastas de outras eras, como as/os que competiram entre as décadas de 30 e 70 do século XX, com ginastas dos anos 80 em diante, e mesmo de comparar os atuais com os de três, quatro décadas atrás; se a ginástica não é como um esporte coletivo ou em que o desempenho é analisado e comparado apenas pela quantidade de medalhas, tal como nos casos de muitos atletas desse esporte que o revolucionaram, mas não chegaram sequer a competir em uma olimpíada. Além desses fatores, também pelo fator referente às qualidades de um ou de uma ginasta, a americana definitivamente não é excepcional em todos os aspectos relacionados para ser considerada a melhor de todas: particularmente no aspecto artístico e no de execução, se destacando de maneira desproporcional apenas ou especialmente na dificuldade. Então, é possível afirmar que ela se firmou como uma das maiores ginastas de todos os tempos, com base no número de conquistas no esporte e também por ser uma das que tem contribuído com a sua evolução. Mas não é possível afirmar que seja a maior de todas ou de deixar isso sugerido, como muitos da mídia têm feito, e por razões bem suspeitas, por exemplo, para passar uma narrativa "anti racista", de "triunfo da mulher negra" (que eu já denominei de "racismo positivo", um tipo de supremacia, de exagero ou distorção de natureza racial, só que a partir de um elogio ou  conotação 'positiva", de qualquer maneira consistindo em uma generalização por relação de causalidade entre raça e comportamento, semelhante a fazer afirmações igualmente generalistas em tons mais negativos). 

Pois Simone Biles não é o único nem o maior mito midiático na ginástica artística, já que, bem antes dela, apareceu uma romena, de nome Nádia Comaneci, nos anos 70, e que foi alçada a uma categoria semi-divina, como se tivesse, e apenas ela, determinado o começo de uma nova era no esporte e, claro, principalmente por causa das narrativas que têm sido criadas pela própria mídia para reforçar sua mitologia. Mas, infelizmente, a partir de uma análise mais sóbria, é possível concluir que Nádia representa muito menos ao esporte em termos objetivos do que a mídia tem afirmado. 

Vejamos... 

Primeiramente, existe a afirmação, que é elementar ao seu mito, plantada por jornalistas e replicada, mesmo por muitos profissionais do esporte, de que Nádia foi a primeira ginasta a conseguir uma nota perfeita pela execução de um exercício, nas olimpíadas de Montreal, em 1976. Em termos oficiais e aparentes, isso é verdade, pelo menos para uma competição olímpica. Mas, se analisarmos de perto, veremos que não é bem assim. Primeiro que, se antes nenhuma* ou nenhum*" ginasta havia conseguido um dez "perfeito" era porque o sistema de pontuação simplesmente não permitia. É que esse sistema muda de tempos em tempos, geralmente entre um ciclo olímpico e outro. Então, foi durante o ciclo olímpico de Montreal, depois das olimpíadas de Munique, que foi praticamente decidido que o dez perfeito seria possível de ser dado a um ou a uma atleta (no artigo da Wikipédia, é dito que os juízes, antes desse ciclo olímpico, não acreditavam que o dez perfeito seria possível. Mas pode-se deduzir que foi uma decisão por convenção que o dez perfeito passaria a ser possível e não que foi um processo natural, como o artigo parece ter deixado a entender). Calhou que coincidiu com o período em que Nádia Comaneci começou a participar das competições oficiais entre ginastas sêniores. Segundo que, o tal primeiro dez perfeito da Nádia Comaneci foi por um exercício compulsório e não por um exercício opcional, que é mais simples e igual para todos que estão competindo (exercícios compulsórios foram rotineiros em competições de ginástica artística até às olimpíadas de Atlanta, em 1996, antes de serem "aposentados" ou extintos). E terceiro que, mesmo se com base no código de pontuação da época, em que o dez perfeito passou a ser permitido, o seu exercício nas barras não mereceu uma pontuação perfeita, até pela saída em que, visivelmente, ela dá uma salto pequeno para frente durante a aterrissagem no solo. Além disso, um dos primeiros, se não o primeiro dez perfeito em uma olimpíada, acredito que foi da ginasta soviética Nelly Kim, no salto, também em Montreal, se também acredito que foi, de fato, um exercício mais merecedor de uma pontuação perfeita que o da Nádia, até pela maior facilidade de se alcançar execuções muito altas no salto, por ser um aparelho mais simples.

* Parece que os primeiros "dez perfeitos" conquistados entre as mulheres na ginástica e em competições oficiais foi pela tchecoslovaca Vera Caslavska no campeonato europeu de 1967.

** Entre os homens, alguns ginastas já haviam conseguido tirar pontuações "perfeitas" na década de 20.

Antes de Nádia, nas olimpíadas de Munique, quatro anos antes de Montreal, apareceu Olga Korbut, e que, na minha opinião, foi mais influente para o avanço do esporte, contribuindo pela primeira vez para torná-lo mais popular, deixando o seu status como "esporte de nicho". Sem falar de suas performances carismáticas, difíceis e inovadoras para a época, especialmente os seus exercícios de trave e barras, esse último, considerado espetacular. Então, mesmo na época em que a Nádia competiu, nem de longe dá para dizer que ela foi a única ou uma das poucas a revolucionarem o esporte. Não tiro o seu mérito, suas qualidades atléticas excepcionais e suas contribuições. Mas, ao menos para mim, está claro que ela foi transformada pela mídia em um mito imerecido. 

Esses são dois exemplos de como que a mídia fabrica narrativas e mitos.

Nádia Comaneci and Simone Biles

Simone Biles has been elevated to the position of greatest gymnast of all time by the Western media, especially the American media. However, for a complex sport such as gymnastics, this statement is very unlikely to be true, if, throughout the history of this sport, there have been many names that have revolutionized it; if its chronological evolution makes it practically impossible to compare gymnasts from other eras, such as those who competed between the 30s and 70s of the 20th century, with gymnasts from the 80s onwards, and even to compare current ones with those of three, four decades ago; if gymnastics is not like a team sport or in which performance is analyzed and compared only/mostly by the number of medals, as in the cases of many athletes in this sport who revolutionized it, but never even competed in an Olympics. In addition to these factors, also due to the factor referring to the qualities of a gymnast, the American is definitely not exceptional in all related aspects to be considered the best of all: particularly in the artistic and execution aspects, standing out disproportionately only or especially in difficulty. So, it is possible to say that she has established herself as one of the greatest gymnasts of all time, based on the number of achievements in the sport and also because she is one of those who has contributed to its evolution. But it is not possible to say that it is the biggest of all or to suggest it, as many in the media have done, and for very suspicious reasons, for example, to convey an "anti-racist" narrative, of "the triumph of black women" ( which I have already called "positive racism", a type of supremacy, exaggeration or distortion of a racial nature, but based on a compliment or 'positive' connotation, in any case consisting of a generalization by a causation between race and behavior, similar to making equally general statements in more negative tones).

Because Simone Biles is not the only or the biggest media myth in artistic gymnastics, since, well before her, a Romanian woman named Nadia Comaneci appeared in the 70s, and was elevated to a semi-divine category, as if she had , and only her, determined the beginning of a new era in sport and, of course, mainly because of the narratives that have been created by the media itself to reinforce its mythology. But, unfortunately, from a more sober analysis, it is possible to conclude that Nadia represents much less to the sport in objective terms than the media has claimed.

Let's see...

Firstly, there is the statement, which is elementary to her myth, planted by journalists and replicated, even by many sports professionals, that Nadia was the first gymnast to achieve a perfect score for performing an exercise, at the Montreal Olympics, in 1976. In official and apparent terms, this is true, at least for an Olympic competition. But, if we look closely, we will see that this is not the case. Firstly, if before any-female* or male**" gymnast had achieved a "perfect" ten, it was because the scoring system simply did not allow it. This system changes from time to time, generally between one Olympic cycle and another. So, it was during the Montreal Olympic cycle, after the Munich Olympics, it was practically decided that a perfect ten would be possible to be given to an athlete (in the Wikipedia article, it is said that the judges, before this Olympic cycle, did not believed that the perfect ten would be possible. But it can be deduced that it was a decision by convention that the perfect ten would become possible and not that it was a natural process, as the article seems to have implied);coinciding period in which Nádia Comaneci began to participate in official competitions among senior gymnasts. Secondly, Nadia Comaneci's first perfect ten was due to a compulsory exercise and not an optional exercise, which is simpler and more equal for everyone who is competing ( compulsory exercises were routine in artistic gymnastics competitions until the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, before being "retired" or extinguished). And thirdly, even if based on the scoring code of the time, in which a perfect ten became allowed, her exercise on the bars did not deserve a perfect score, even due to the dismount in which, visibly, she makes a small jump to forward during landing on the ground. Furthermore, one of the first, if not the first perfect ten at an Olympics, I believe was by Soviet gymnast Nelly Kim, on the vault, also in Montreal, if I also believe that it was, in fact, an exercise more deserving of a perfect score than Nadia's, especially because it is easier to achieve very high vault executions, as it is a simpler device.

Before Nadia, at the Munich Olympics, four years before Montreal, Olga Korbut appeared, and who, in my opinion, was most influential in the advancement of the sport, contributing for the first time to making it more popular, leaving its status as a "niche sport". Not to mention her charismatic, difficult and innovative performances for the time, especially her beam and bars exercises, the latter considered spectacular. So, even at the time when Nadia competed, it's not even close to saying that she was the only one or one of the few to revolutionize the sport. I don't take away his merit, her exceptional athletic qualities and contributions. But, to me at least, it is clear that she has been turned into an undeserved myth by the media.

These are two examples of how the media manufactures narratives and myths.
