The most rational versus the most adapted

Ecologically speaking, a relationship is understood as parasitism when one species dominates, "zombifies," or deceives another for its own benefit. Thus, when a wasp species evolves to specialize in using ant colonies for its own organic development—without any benefit to the hosts (quite the contrary)—this is immediately recognized as a parasitic relationship. Yet, we also have collectivist colonies of insects—and of other categories of living beings, such as humans—where, even in the absence of such inter-species dynamics, the same structures of power or domination, submission, and sacrifice persist. Here, however, these dynamics play out between different classes within the same species. The primary victims are the classes evolutionarily compelled to sacrifice themselves for the collective to which they belong—and, ultimately, the individual and individuality itself. In non-human social species, however, individuality appears far more nominal—partly due to their lower levels of intelligence, consciousness, and perception of reality compared to ours. Consequently, its loss or absence goes unfelt—except by us, who possess it (albeit to varying degrees). Regarding the fundamental capacity to recognize risks or dangers, human rationality at its highest levels could be seen as a vast extension of this ability—an indisputable advantage. Yet, a major paradox arises and persists: adaptation often entails self-sacrifice without the individual knowing or being fully aware of their actions. This stands in stark contrast to the pinnacle of adaptive, evolutionary human intelligence—rationality itself. Another common synonym for adaptation is compatibility—a matter more of luck than of pure adaptive capacity (at least in the human sense of a "conscious ability to understand one's environment and adjust to it safely and beneficially"). For while this "fully conscious capacity" is virtually nonexistent or unattainable for non-human species, even among the most intelligent species, it proves to be far more variable than uniformly distributed.
